To change the locks unscrew the door knob from the inside and pull the knobs apart.
How to change your house door locks.
Position the lock mechanism such that the keyhole is vertically aligned.
Insert the new knobs into the door opening.
Orient the turn assembly plate such that its top side is at the top.
Remove the screws from the old lock on the inside of the door.
Dump out the old pins insert the new key and use tweezers or small needle nose pliers to match the new colored pins to the color code on the special instruction sheet.
Remove the rest of the deadbolt hardware from the door.
Begin by removing the screws from the door knob on the interior side of your door.
Take your new deadbolt hardware and install it where the old one was.
You may also need to use a wire tool or a paper clip.
2 remove the two smaller.
This allows you to pull the door knobs off the door from both sides.
In some cases door latch plate mortises might need to be cut or enlarged.
Pull out the two door knobs.
Tom recommends changing the locks whenever a new home is purchased.
Use a phillips head screwdriver to unfasten the two or three screws located on the inside knob plate.
Once the new pins are in reverse the steps to reassemble the lock.
Rekeying involves realigning the pins and springs in the inner workings of the lock in.
Insert your new deadbolt.
Open your door so you can see the side of the lock the narrow part running along the inside of the door and locate and remove those screws as well.
In apartment complexes this is now the most common way of changing locks on a door.
Screw the new knobs into the door.
On the opposite side insert the bar into the channel in the back of the turn assembly plate.
Unscrew the two screws on the base plate of the door knob on the interior side of the door using a screwdriver with the appropriate head.
Then remove each side s door knob by pulling them away from the door.
Twist the knob on the turn assembly to expose the bolt holes.
