The second line of defense is a set of infrared sensors which should be mounted 4 to 6 above the floor on each side of the garage door frame. Garage doors may display a variety of symptoms if sensors need attention. If any object blocks the path of the infrared sensors the garage door opener will not activate or will reverse if operating. To increase the amount of force turn it clockwise.

The beams are easy to test simply pass your foot in between the two sensors while the door is closing and if the door goes back up you know that they are working properly. To decrease the amount of force required to reverse the direction of the garage door turn the knob or screw with a screwdriver counterclockwise one quarter. If the door does not reverse it needs attention immediately. This safety reverse feature is hidden inside the motor unit and works separately from the safety beam that goes across the bottom of the door.
